Saving Disk Space
Previous  Top  Next

By default Windows uses a lot of disk space, about 12 percent of your hard drive. When it reaches that limit it will start deleting Restore Points starting with the oldest to make room for new ones. It's Camtech's opinion that it is far too much space and unnecessary. Our tests showed an average of 50 Megabytes per Restore Point. This means you could conceivably go back to a state as far as a month ago. The only restore point necessary is the last time your computer had no problems. Normally this would be the same day or the day before.

When System Restore brings back your earlier point, it will most likely leave out any of the programs you've installed since then. You would have to reinstall them. Because Windows automatically creates a restore point nearly every day, don't choose a spot further back in time than necessary.

To adjust how much space System Restore uses:
1. Right click on the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties and this Window will appear.
2. Click the System Restore tab

2. Click to highlight your hard drive and select Settings to get this Window. In this case we have our second drive turned off.
